TPMS IN THE USA:
Back in 1998, due to increased road accidents linked to tires failures, the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) required that all cars made or sold in the USA be fitted with TPMS sensors by 2008.
This TPMS legislation was then called the TREAD Act.
So that meant that all garages and tire repair shops would have to be equiped with TPMS activating tools by 2008, opening the gates for a new market of TPMS devices.
ATEQ supplies its TPMS tools directly from its North American headquarters based in Detroit, Michigan. Support and distribution are all handled from Detroit.
As for Canada and Mexico, ATEQ has its own offices there too.
TPMS IN EUROPE:
Although no actual law obliges car manufacturers to fit TPMS valves into their vehicles, TPMS has become a more and more popular option over the years, first for high end models, followed by middle range models.
That alone pushed many tire repair shops to get the proper tools to activate new mounted TPMS valves.
There is also a european law that is in its final stages in the european parliament and that states that all vehicles in the European community should too be fitted with TPM systems by 2012. So then again, all tire repair shops will eventually have to get TPMS activating tools to trigger those valves.

TPMS IN ASIA:
Just like in Europe, there are no laws that currently oblige car manufacturers to fit TPMS valves into their vehicles, but TPMS has become an option in vehicle like the TOYOTA Prius, or the Nissan Almera.
Again, that alone pushed many tire repair shops to get the proper tools to activate new mounted TPMS valves.
