TPMS diagnostic information – Honda HR-V 2016-2018

Honda CR-V TPMS information

Honda HR-V (2016-2018)

After the TREAD Act was mandated in 2007, all vehicles manufactured in the United States beginning in 2008, must be installed with direct or indirect TPMS systems.

The Honda HRV uses an indirect TPMS system, which means no TPMS sensors are installed in the wheel. With the indirect system, low tire pressure is communicated through the ABS system. If one or more tires indicate low tire pressure, an indicator light will show on the dash.

When a tire is inflated, rotated or changed in one or more tires of a Honda HR-V, the system will need to be recalibrated, also called an indirect TPMS relearn.

Type of TPMS system:

Indirect TPMS, no sensors are installed in the wheel, tire pressure is communicated through the ABS system

Type of Relearn procedure:

Indirect relearn procedure

Type of TPMS tool required for TPMS reset:

The vehicle’s owners manual should have the indirect TPMS system procedure or an advanced TPMS scan tool should have the relearn procedure written in the tool, such as the ATEQ VT56 and VT55

Indirect relearn procedure with Multi-Informational Display:

  • Release the parking brake
  • Turn ignition ON, position engine OFF
  • Push and hold the TPMS button located near the lower knee bolster until the TPMS light blinks twice, calibration has begun

Troubleshooting tips

  • Vehicle must be stopped with the transmission in park, and the ignition must be turned on before the indirect relearn procedure can begin.
  • During tire replacement or installation, all four tires must be the same type and size and set to recommended placard pressure. This is especially important because the indirect system indicates low tire pressure in one or more tires according to the differences in tire rotation.
  • The Honda HR-V indirect system is available for the U.S. only. A vehicle manufactured in Canada will not have a TPMS system available as an option.
  • After performing the indirect relearn procedure, the calibration process takes about 30 minutes to fully complete. The TPMS light will remain illuminated until it has been driven for at least 30 minutes at 30 to 60 mph.
